Uber reportedly told by investors to sell its self-driving unit

Ride-hailing giant Uber has been reportedly told by investors to sell its self-driving vehicle unit over mounting losses as per a new piece from The Information which cites an unnamed person familiar with the issue.

Uber's Advanced Technologies Group which comprises of its autonomous vehicle efforts has racked up losses between $125 million to $200 million each quarter for the past 18 months equivalent to between 15% and 30% of its quarterly losses as reported by Uber indicating the unit taken huge investments amid a not yet clear commercialization path.

Over the past 3 years, Uber has invested at least $2 Billion into the unit making efforts to boost its autonomous vehicle base amid competition with the likes of Waymo and several other major self driving startups.





Uber still needs to develop its autonomous vehicle efforts in order to gain a good stand in the long term and would have to figure out ways to court other self driving vehicle developers to its own network and find way…

IoT startup Tuya gets $200 million Series C investment from Australian sovereign wealth fund and others

Chinese Internet of Things solution startup Tuya has now raised $200 million in funding from the Australian Government Future Fund and other investors including New Enterprise Associates, CICC, China Broadband Capital and others.

This $200 million figure places this round as one of the largest in the IoT space with Tuya which was started 4 years ago by former employees of Alibaba's cloud division gaining very deep and large capital to extend its services and product ecosystem.

Tuya currently offers smart software for power accessories, smart lightning, surveillance, kitchen and household appliances in combination with enviromental health providing users with an inter-connected smart platform where several devices in the home are controlled easily through the use of mobile devices which provides a smart experience for several homes.





Tuya stands as a one-stop IoT service provider for device manufacturers who link its hardware with Tuya's IoT software in order to bring a smarter feel and get better results.

The company assists manufacturers in building industrial ecosystems and integrating with mainstream digital assistants including Amazon's Alexa and Google Home which provide its devices with IoT software from Tuya making the device more suitable and smarter to consumers.

This round marks Tuya's status as one of the most impressive companies in the global IoT space with the Hnagzhou based company already counting the likes of TCL, smart home startup Geeni, refrigerator manufacturer Xingx and also the likes of Microsoft, AWS, Nest and IFTTT as platform partners with all these done in just 4 years from inception.

The IoT space is growing at a very fast rate with several startups and companies adopting and improving on the technology space which also counts other main players with a notable one being C3IoT, The Internet of Things company founded founded by software veteran and Billionaire Thomas Siebel which was last valued at $1.4 Billion from its most previous round of funding which amounted to $100 million in Series F funding this year with one acquisition and $222 million raised by the 9 year old company so far.

Facebok's David Marcus leaves Coinbase's board to Avoid ‘Appearance’ of Conflict of Interest

Facebook's current blockchain head David Marcus has now stepped down from the board of digital currency exchange unicorn Coinbase in a bid to avoid conflict on interest over his new role as head of the social networking giant's blockchain efforts which may compete with Coinbase's products.

According to a Facebook spokesperson as reported by CNBC, the move was “to avoid the appearance of conflict, rather than because of an actual conflict.”

The Facebook Vice President who is also a former President of PayPal was appointed to Coinbase's board December last year being chosen based on his experience at with digital payments at both PayPal and Facebook in addition to his knowledge of the cryptocurrency ecosystem.






“Because of the new group I'm setting up at Facebook around Blockchain, I've decided it was appropriate for me to resign from the Coinbase board." Marcus said in a statement released to various media outlets concerning his resignation from the board.

Uber Technologies has named former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Matthew Olsen as its Chief Trust and Security Officer in a new move which marks efforts by the company to boost security for its data crucial global ride-hailing network.

Chinese co-working startup MyDreamplus nabs $120 million in round led by Hillhouse and General Atlantic

Chinese co-working startup and WeWork China competitor MyDreamplus has now raised $120 million in a new funding round co-led by Chinese investment giant Hillhouse Capital and General Atlantic with participation from other investors including Joy Capital, Ocean Link, K2VC and M31 Capital.

This funding which brings the total raised by the 3 year old Chinese startup to nearly $190 million comes on the heels of MyDreamPlus's expansion as it aims to double its floor space within the next 12 months.

As competition in the Chinese co-working space heats up, MyDreamPlus would have to expand its presence across the region to keep up with demands from customers and would make use of this funding to boost its growth.

NY based online pharmacy startup Capsule gets $50 million in latest funding round

Online pharmacy startup Capsule based out of New York and now preparing for national expansion has now raised $50 million in additional funding from Glade Brook Capital Partners and Thrive Capital as it takes on a mission to expand its online pharmacy business throughout the U.S. to provide more users with easier methods of getting prescribed drugs through the net.

This funding brings the total raised by Capsule which also counts the Virgin Group and Sound Ventures as investors to over $70 million since its start in 2015 as it aims to be a leader in the growing e-healthcare market which counts other notable leaders like PillPack and GoodRx.

Crypto mining startup Bitmain reportedly on target for $10 Billion in revenue this year

Chinese crypto mining hardware startup Bitmain has been in the news as of recent concerning several notable moves, A $1 Billion investment from Tencent, A reported $18 Billion IPO plan and now another report made by TechCrunch citing a company fundraise overview of Bitmain on target for a whooping $10 Billion in revenue this year.

Apple re-hires Tesla chief vehicle engineer Doug Field hinting its own vehicle plans

Tech giant Apple has now re-hired its former VP of Mac hardware from Tesla which he left to five years ago to become its chief vehicle engineer with Field now returning to the Cupertino based company to reportedly work on its secretive “Project Titan” self-driving car project.

According to an piece from Daring Fireball, Field will work with Apple executive Bob Mansfield on its self-driving car project which has been sort of a mystery as public information on the initiative has been very limited.
